iPhoneography: It’s Changing My Life

As many of you know, I am taking a little sabbatical during these slow, cozy winter months.  A time of reflection and prioritizing and refreshing is beyond past due.  During this time off, I am committing to a Project 365 (well, really “366″ since it’s Leap Year!).  Each day I will take at least one image.  Each image will be taken with my iPhone and archived on my Project 365 app.  I am not even one month into this journey, and I am already noticing a difference in how I see the world.  It’s also forcing me to document the little moments that may otherwise frequently pass me by.

This image, entitled “Under the Weather”, was taken of my youngest this past week.  I love the pretty light wrapping around her, almost in a healing embrace.

This image is also part of a Blog Carousel.  The Blog Carousel involves a group of talented, professional photographers from around the world who choose a new theme each month to photograph.  This month’s theme is “alternative cameras”.  My iPhone has become my alternative camera of choice.  I am vowing to carry my massive , heavy professional camera more often in 2012, but nothing beats the iPhone in terms of its convenience and strange ability to give me a fresh, unique perspective. You are invited to enjoy our Blog Carousel.  To start, follow the link for the next blog post from Atlanta Baby and Child  Photographer, Corey Sewell.  She will tell you where to go from there!

Beautiful image, June – and I hope your little one is feeling better now!

Anna-KarinJanuary 22, 2012 - 11:20 pm

Your daughter looks so peaceful in this photograph. A great every day capture from what is going on in life and your choice for alternative camera was clearly a good option.

I do love this photograph! Isn’t it amazing how shooting a photo everyday can give you more insight into not only how you live, but also how you SEE.

Simply gorgeous June! It really has nothing to do with what camera you use – and everything to do with the eye behind it. Little A looks so peaceful and sweet – love her!

Playful Photos: Grand Rapids Child Photographer

I love it when moms are willing to jump in for photos.  Sometimes it takes getting a little dirty, a little out of breath, and a lot of silly, but the results are priceless.  There is nothing better for me than the opportunity to capture the love between a mom and her son or daughter. It’s magical.

LOVE the real beauty of these – they tell the story so well, in an artful composition. So far from a snapshot it isn’t even funny! THIS is what custom photography should be! What every family dreams of having….

Family Photography

I was lucky enough to meet Chelle when she first commissioned me to photograph her beautiful girls probably about four or five years ago.  Chelle then began her own photography business and through the years we have become friends.  Our girls are nearly the same age and we certainly never lack for topics of discussion!

I was excited when Chelle convinced me to visit her and photograph her family again in Columbus where she has since moved.  However, that excitement was immediately followed by a tremendous sense of pressure.   Other photographers can be the subject of fun sessions because they already love photography and art and kids, but then come the thoughts of Am I good enough?  Will she like these?  and I really want her to love these!

So without further ado, here are some of the images from her recent session.  We played, we laughed, we jumped, we ran, and we explored.  Thanks for a super fun afternoon with your family, Chelle!  You are amazing, and smart, and fun, and I’m glad you’re my friend!:)

BreeOctober 7, 2010 - 7:12 pm

One Is Fun! | Grand Rapids Family Photographer

This handsome man brought it all to his one year old photo session.  From serious to contemplative to flirty to so, so silly, he is a boy with personality to spare.  Photo sessions with subjects this age have the potential to be exciting, but grueling.  Well, this was a walk in the park, literally.  So fun!

Believe it or not, I was warned that he may not grace me with too many smiles.  No problem, I love this kind of expressiveness.

He couldn’t resist letting a little more personality slip out.

And the purest joy.

And even more joy.

I do not require joyful expression from all my subjects.  All kids are different, and as a photographer, I seek to capture a glimpse of real, true expression…whatever that may be for the moment for that child.  Still, I do hope that each photo session has at least a little bit of fun.

On another note, it is been very, very busy here at June Kuiper Photography…almost too busy, and that is something I vowed to change for 2010!  The fall schedule is filling up quickly, so please contact me soon to get a spot on the calendar.  I would love to see all your smiling, serious, silly, grumpy (well, not too grumpy), playful, thoughtful, gorgeous faces this fall.

Richard BossAugust 18, 2010 - 11:26 am

June, you always do a fantastic job with my grandchildren. Thanks ever so much. Rick

These are awesome, June! Love that you captured his personality – love the “even more joy”!

Grand Rapids Photographer

Wouldn’t it be fun if this gorgeous guy lived a bit closer? It was great to catch up with my cousin and meet her baby boy for the first time.

Everyone knows I’m a complete sucker for six to nine month subjects. Of course, Fionn couldn’t have been a more cooperative, more photogenic seven month old. I find it hard to believe he gives his mama such a run for her money in the wee hours of the night!

His expressions are priceless and everything about him is sweetness.

Dena RoblesMarch 10, 2010 - 1:02 pm

Oh my, what personality!! I think these may be some of my favorites from you ever. It is so obvious you were having fun.

PamNMarch 14, 2010 - 12:34 pm

He is simply adorable. Love his name! These show him right on the verge of leaving babyhood for toddlerhood – priceless!

Lisa KellyMarch 14, 2010 - 6:29 pm

Oh my goodness. Those eyes in the first image are amazing!!!! And the shot of him on the bed with his hair spiked up, too cute. How gorgeous these are

Corey SewellMarch 14, 2010 - 8:01 pm

Oh my goodness – what a doll! Love all of his expressions. You captured him perfectly!

carrie kressMarch 25, 2010 - 8:10 pm
